We are pleased to announce that AILOS Robotics has joined as our new tech recruiting partner.
Innovative technology for lighter and more efficient robotics hardware
AILOS-Robotics was founded by Stein Crispel, Pablo López García, and Prof. Dirk Lefeber, building on more than a decade of robotics research at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and BruBotics. The company was created to take a new generation of robotics hardware out of the lab and turn it into commercially deployable technology for humanoid robots, collaborative robots, exoskeletons, prosthetics, and other advanced robotic systems.
At the core of this technology is the new R2poweR gearbox, patented by AILOS and designed to deliver high reduction ratios while maintaining high torque density, efficiency, and backdrivability. This enables robotic actuators that can combine high power with the responsiveness and mechanical compliance required for advanced robotic applications.
AILOS has now moved from research and proof-of-concept development toward industrialization and commercial deployment. In 2025, the company secured €3.5 million in seed funding, backed by QBIC, High-Tech Gründerfonds, Wallonie Entreprendre, and finance&invest.brussels, to support the further development and scale-up of its technology.
Building the engineering team behind next-gen gearboxes
As an engineering company advancing new gearbox technology toward industrial-scale production, AILOS needs highly specialized mechanical engineering, mechatronics, industrial control, and robotics profiles that truly understand the underlying technology behind its innovative robotics hardware.
Metheion will support AILOS with technical recruiting across:
Gearbox Technology
Gearbox architecture, transmission design, gear systems, high-ratio reduction mechanisms, backdrivability, torque density, efficiency, mechanical losses, and optimisation of transmission performance.Gearbox Design
Concept development, mechanical design, 3D CAD, detailed drawings, gears, bearings, housings, tolerancing, GD&T, material selection, manufacturability, prototyping, and design optimisation for industrialisation.Actuation Systems
Integrated actuator development combining the gearbox, motor, mechanical transmission, sensing, and control requirements needed for robotic joints, including humanoid and collaborative robotics applications.Test Engineering & Validation
Design and assembly of mechanical test benches, gearbox performance testing, torque and speed measurement, efficiency characterisation, backdrivability testing, thermal behaviour, vibration, reliability and endurance testing, sensor and DAQ systems, test protocol development, and analysis of experimental data.Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical architecture, component design, prototyping, manufacturing interfaces, supplier collaboration, tolerancing, and optimisation of compact robotic hardware.Mechatronics
Integration of mechanical, electrical, sensing, actuation, and control elements into complete robotic actuator systems.Technical Sales
Technical sales and business development for robotic OEMs, system integrators, distributors, and industrial customers, requiring the ability to understand actuator technology and communicate its engineering value in real customer applications.
This is exactly the type of hiring where technical understanding matters. A gearbox engineer can come from vacuum engineering, robotics, automotive, wind power, aerospace, or another adjacent field without ever having been familiar with the exact terminology for an innovative gearbox design job description. The same applies to test engineers, mechatronics engineers, and technical sales professionals.
Our role is to understand what AILOS is building, identify relevant technical backgrounds, and assess candidates against the actual gearbox technology engineering problems they will be working on.
We are looking forward to being a part of building the team behind the next generation of robotic actuation.
